There are wines that are born from a precise project, and wines that are born from intuition.
And then there are those rare wines that are born from a mistake… or from an act of courage.
The story that inspired our Skaramantico line belongs to this last category.
It was 2008, a period of experimentation in our young family winery, Palazzo Centofanti.
My father decided to try something bold with our Montepulciano d’Abruzzo: a double-skin maceration, adding to the must the skins that we normally set aside for Cerasuolo.
An idea born from curiosity, from the desire to understand how far the character of our grape could go.

The result, after a year in barrel, was disappointing. The wine seemed exuberant, chaotic, far from the balance we seek every day in the cellar.
Many would have discarded it.
My father did not.
He let it rest, as an instinctive gesture… or perhaps out of superstition.
The years passed, and that experiment was almost forgotten.
Until, one day, opening a bottle by chance, the unexpected happened:
the wine had become extraordinary.
After a day in the decanter, it had found its voice: deep, elegant, surprisingly harmonious.
A small miracle born from time and patience.
That experiment was never repeated. It was a unique episode and for that reason, precious.
But it left us a lesson that still guides our choices today: that wine has its own rhythm, its own truth, and sometimes, its own magic.

From that unexpected discovery came the name Skaramantico (superstitious) : a way to remember that in the cellar it takes heart, courage… and often a bit of luck.
Even though it follows a traditional vinification today, it preserves the spirit of that intuition: long aging, substantial structure, profound elegance.
A Montepulciano d’Abruzzo DOC created to surprise those who love true wines, the ones that speak of land, time, and family. Each Magnum is our promise: a sip to remember.
Because for us at Palazzo Centofanti, wine is also this: an act of love that continues to move you, just like the first time.
